Missional Job Opportunity
I have worked for Catholic Charities here on Long Island for a number of years -- developing housing for people at risk of homelessness and living with HIV/AIDS, as well as other disabilities including mental illness and substance abuse. I am proud of "my program" -- the S
pecial Needs Housing Program, and I am proud of the good work that we do. I am especially proud of another program at Catholic Charities that I believe is truly an example of putting faith into action everyday.
The Teaching Family Home Program is a community-based, structured residential treatment program for children and adolescents age five to 17. The program provides individualized treatment and care to children who suffer from serious emotional disturbances. Currently there are five homes in operation in Nassau and Suffolk counties (Long Island, NY), and more are in development. Typically, there are four children and/or adolescents living with a specially trained married couple (teaching parents) and their own family. The children attend schools that are appropriate to their needs, and become part of the community in which they live.
The Teaching Family Home Program pairs four emotionally disturbed youth and two teaching parents, a married couple who provide support and teach skills for successful living in the community. Each child's family is extensively involved in treatment, with the goals of stabilizing the family and returning the child to his or her home. The teaching parents provide a milieu where the children can learn how to function effectively in the family and the community.
Catholic Charities is looking to hire teaching parents for an immediate opening, as well as for other Teaching Family Homes that are in development. Each parent is salaried, and their family (of not more than two children) is provided a home as part of the compensation package. Won't you and your family consider becoming a Teaching Family?
Please feel free to send a resume to Catholic Charities Teaching Family Home Program, 333 North Main Street, Freeport, New York, 11520, or fax it to: 1.516.634.0017. For more information, call the program at 516.634.0012, ext. 127
