Prayer for America on this Independence Day










Dear God, Ruler of All Nations – we ask for Your Blessing during this 237th Anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence.

Help us to be a compassionate nation – one that treats its citizens with dignity, that respects the self-evident truths that patriots penned :  “that all [women and] men  are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

 
God we ask that you inspire our vision to continue to build a nation that is truly free -- free from chains, free from greed, free from the hypocrisy of those who would use Your name to oppress.   We ask that You keep us from using blind patriotism to disregard the values that make this nation great:  love, freedom, democracy, individualism, equality, diversity, progress and change. 

Strengthen us Most High – make us a channel of Your peace.   Give us the will and fortitude to be an example of Your Will for this Nation and the World.  

And finally, Most High God, we pray that You grant our nation’s leaders wisdom.  Help the elected government and all those in positions of power and authority to govern wisely and for the common good of all. Guide them in legislating the laws of this land, that they create laws that are just and budgets that are moral;   that help this nation to a path of equity, peace and prosperity on Your terms. 

And as always, we praise you Most High
, and we thank you Jesus for your gifts of love, grace and leadership.

In Your name, we pray.  Amen.
